Challenge / Goal
Abertillery Park is a popular location with rugby, cricket and bowls teams based there whilst also having a children’s play area and popular active trail running north out of the park and up the valley. We were asked by the Active Travel department if we could find a way to monitor the use of the trail and provide data for the amount of trail users and what habits could be identified for reporting purposes.
Solution
We invested in a Chambers RadioBeam People-Bicycle Counter to install on the active travel route. The sensors are installed in vandal resistant recycled plastic bollards so they may be less conspicuous and with no visible sensors to attract unwanted attention. The sensors are battery powered and have two beams, one for the cycle users and one for the pedestrians and counts them separately, they are also bi-directional.
