Challenge / Goal
Being a small, isolated population in Torre Baró and other geographic challenges were an obstacle for a sustainable and efficient mobility infrastructure.
Solution
To handle the area’s tricky streets, we developed GPS customised navigation maps to recognise access requirements, limitations and permissions of public buses, which were all different from cars.
Accordingly, we switched services from fixed-route-and-schedule to flexible on-demand. Using the elMeuBus app, users can request a pick-up and drop-off at any of the new stops that now also cover the entire residential area of Torre Baró.
Citizen participation
Before the start of any operation we always have focus groups with the municipalities and end users. In this case, we worked as follows:
- Initial meetings with relevant staff of the Town Hall
- Calls with local experts
- Focus group with potential customers
- Interviews with end users
- Visit to the city to obtain direct knowledge of the area
