Challenge / Goal
Assessing waste heat potential within the city boundaries for integration in the central district heating system. The focus is on the most accessible inner-city sources, such as data centres and sewers as well as process heat.
This study is intended to provide an overview of the industry-specific amount of usable waste heat in Leipzig in order to be able to assess the potential for cities with a comparable structure. The methodology for localising and evaluating the waste heat sources is intended to demonstrate replicability for fellow cities.
Solution
- Development of a localisation concept for urban waste heat sources
- Application of the localisation methodology and waste heat data collection
- Analysis and evaluation of waste heat sources
- Further processing of the results
