Challenge / Goal
The popularity of online shopping has led to more delivery trucks visiting residential areas with resulting increases in emissions, noise levels and traffic hazards. The aim of this use case is to improve quality of life and reduce the number of journeys by car by improving residents’ access to delivery services. A delivery room enables tenants to collect parcels at a convenient location without having to wait at home or travel to a collection point.
Solution
A series of communal service boxes have been installed in or close to entrance halls of residential buildings in Valla Torg, Stockholm. Service boxes are accessible to tenants 24 hours a day. Access to the boxes is controlled with a unique temporary identification code that will open the service box for the right person, which is issued to the tenant when a package addressed to them is stored in one of the boxes.
The service provider of the cargo bicycle deliveries will make consolidated deliveries to all tenants in the area and replace a majority of the existing ones done by fossil fueled vehicles. The service provider delivering with the cargo bicycles will be integrated with the different general service provider of parcel deliveries either at one separate service point or will pick up parcels at several different service points.
Residents order their parcels to a newly registered "care of" (c/o) address and Carrier and the cycle delivery company Move-By-Bike handle the last-mile delivery. Residents register for the service via an app and access the delivery room with a unique access code.
