Challenge / Goal
The main challenge of the project is to increase energy efficiency for the residents of Tepebaşi. The conditions of the city are favourable, due to:
• High technical potential (average 1500 kWh/a per 1 kWp installed capacity)
• Available space (roof and carport areas)
• Municipality knowledge and previous experience on PV system installation
Solution
Building-integrated Photovoltaics (BIPV) is the addition of photovoltaics (PV) into the building envelope. The PV modules serve the dual function of power generators and replacement of conventional building envelope materials. BIPV systems can provide savings in materials and electricity costs, reduce use of fossil fuels and the emission of ozone depleting gases, and add architectural interest to the building. They have a total capacity of 150 kWe, producing 240 MWh/year electricity which yields a 125454kg CO2e reduction.
