Challenge / Goal
In an increasingly urbanized world, efficient and sustainable urban and transportation planning is becoming more and more important. With the advent of modern technologies and innovative approaches, there is an opportunity to make planning processes more effective and holistic. One promising tool that realizes this vision is our cloud-based planning tool GOAT - an open-source software that is flexible in data integration and supports a wide range of planning disciplines.
For this reason, the Rhine-Neckar metropolitan region is making our GOAT planning software available to all stakeholders as part of the "Smart Region " project.
Solution
GOAT enables the implementation of smart cities and provides fact-based analyses as a basis for planning processes. The core of GOAT is the analysis of the accessibility effects of new infrastructural measures, whether in the context of urban land use planning, urban development planning, local transport plans or local mobility concepts. More specific measures such as cycling concepts, operational mobility management, strategic planning for walking, cycling and public transport, charging infrastructure planning and heat action plans are also taken into account. With GOAT, planners can perform dynamic accessibility analyses to visualize the current situation and model future scenarios. The analyses are performed quickly and easily directly in the browser, without the need for time-consuming data preparation or installation. The intuitive operation enables different planning disciplines to collaboratively participate in coordinated urban and transportation planning.
In addition, the flexible nature of the software allows for easy integration of data and customization to meet the individual needs of planners. This open approach not only promotes collaboration and knowledge sharing within the planning community, but also allows for continuous development and improvement of the system.
GOAT stands out as a tool for integrated urban and transportation planning. With its innovative features, user-friendly operation and focus on sustainability and efficiency, the planning software promises a promising future for the design of our urban living spaces.
