Challenge / Goal
The number of traffic accidents reached a new high of 2.67 million in 2019. Accident statistics only allow a reactive view of dangerous spots in road traffic. In order to proactively prevent accidents, early indicators are helpful to detect danger spots more quickly so that they can be eliminated in time.
Solution
Via Gefahrenstellen.de (website & app), road users of any kind (car, bike, pedestrian, ...) can proactively report dangerous spots in road traffic from their region. The danger spots recorded via crowdsourcing are processed and evaluated with other data sources as part of the FeGiS+ research project (early detection of danger spots in road traffic through smart data).
The information is then fed back to road users via warning messages on the one hand and passed on to road safety stakeholders (e.g., municipalities and police) on the other.
