Challenge / Goal
The University of Manchester set a target to icrease the number of electric vehicles in their fleet from 4 in 2014 to 20 in 2022. The University has commitment to reduce carbon emissions and also improve local air quality.
Solution
The university decided to change 7 of the diesel powered operational services vans to Electric Vans through a leasing scheme. 7 Nissan Tekna ENV 200 were leased for the project which was also supported by EU Lighthouse Project Triangulum. The aim was to improve the local air quality and eliminate tail pipe emissions. The leasing model enables simple and high scale replacement of vehicles. With the support from the Triangulum project, the gap between the leasing price of the diesel and electric vehicles was covered by EU project money.
The data from the implementation is being monitored to identify business case for moving to all EV fleet.
