Challenge / Goal

How can mobility data be collected and used to design sustainable means of transport, especially public transport, in a user-oriented way and thus make it more attractive? Especially in rural areas, innovations are necessary to counteract the predominance of the private car.

Solution

It is planned to implement automatic recognition of the mode of transport used in each case, from which the modal split of the user group can be derived. Based on this, suggestions for improvement are to be formed automatically in order to support sustainable transport development. Data protection, transparency and transferability (open-access) are considered cornerstones of the development, so that as a result of NorOvA there are secure, digital tools for data-based traffic optimization in diverse locations.

The project started in April 2019 and will run until March 2021. It is funded by the Baden-Württemberg Ministry of Transport as part of "MobiArch BW" in the amount of €250,000 and takes place in cooperation with the local Schwarzwald-Baar Transport Association (VSB). In the winter semester 2019/2020, the associated app was tested on the basis of the university members of the HFU and then further developed.
