Challenge / Goal
The CityLAB Berlin, which is operated by the Technologieinstitut Berlin, has accompanied the innovative development and participation process around the Gemeinsam Digital strategy over the past two years. It is intended that such a strategy can provide a common standard for the digital realm in Berlin, namely in the pursuit of ensuring sustainability, cooperation and socially responsible transformative processes.
Solution
A large number of actors from urban society are now implementing Gemeinsam Digital: Berlin, implementing initial measures and five concrete pilots, including the Technology Foundation with the Smart Water and Kiezbox 2.0 projects.
It is a fusion of the Berlin Digital Strategy and the Smart City Strategy and was developed in a participatory process together with Berliners, business and startups, science and research, the Berlin administration and civil administration and civil society. These stakeholders will also be closely involved in the implementation process. The central goal is to make Berlin's digital transformation sustainable, public welfare-oriented, cooperative and resilient.
Since the beginning of 2021, the vision of a smart Berlin has been supported by the "Smart Cities Model Projects" program of the German Federal Ministry of Housing, Urban Development and Construction (BMWS), Urban Development and Construction (BMWSB) and on the basis of a broad-based participation process. In the process, fields of action were identified, a compass of values defined and initial concrete measures adopted. Support was provided to the Senate Chancellery Berlin in the development and participation process by CityLAB Berlin, the urban innovation laboratory operated by the Technologieinstitut Berlin.
