Challenge / Goal
In times of increasing population density and dynamic changes in urban structures, it is essential for fire and rescue services to continuously optimize their locations. Until now, location optimization has been the subject of complex studies carried out by external planning offices - a time-consuming and capital-intensive process. The task we were given was to develop a solution that could be used by the fire department itself.
Solution
The solution developed makes it possible to carry out location planning without the need to commission external planning offices, which is costly in terms of time and capital. The approach of being able to model various scenarios with regard to the operational capability of fire stations makes it possible to evaluate the current situation. This in turn has a direct impact on capacity planning if individual stations have to be put on increased alert due to the temporary loss of locations. In addition, the Düsseldorf fire department can validate planned locations in the future. As a result, civil protection is also ensured in the longer term thanks to optimized deployment times.
It is a customizable application that is tailored to the needs of the user. This makes it possible to react flexibly to the challenges of different cities.
