Challenge / Goal
The challenge was clear: to export wine products to Europe while significantly reducing CO2 emissions. And the result has exceeded all expectations: more than 11,000 bottles of Cava transported to Germany with a 92% saving in CO2 emissions, in less time and with a 3% increase in load capacity compared to road transport.
Solution
On November 30, 31 pallets with 11,100 bottles of cava were loaded into a 45-foot container (HC and PWC) and taken by truck to the Granollers railway station (60 kilometers away). There, they were loaded onto a train that took 48 hours to transport them to the Ludwigshaven terminal (1,300 kilometers away). Finally, another truck transported the container with the goods without handling to Alsheim, the final destination (40 kilometers away). In total, it took 53 hours to cover a distance of 1,427 kilometers. During this time, the product was kept at a constant temperature of between 6.2 and 12.3°C and a humidity of between 50 and 54%. A very low level of vibration was also recorded using this combination of transport modes.
